At the end 2019, the Chester Team decided we would like to give something back to a local charity.
We are privileged to work in a fast paced and demanding profession, which most would agree takes much of our time and energy. But it’s too easy to forget those people who would love the opportunity to be in our shoes, with the comfort of a wage at the end of the month.
Our first donation raised from ‘Dress Down Fridays’ and we have plans for more fund raising events in 2020. It didn’t take much discussion for us all to agree on the plight of the homeless as a worthy cause. Both our London and Chester offices are based in the city centre and when we discussed who we should adopt as our charity, we were all of the same opinion. It appears the number of homeless people living on the streets continues to grow every year and the problem isn’t going away. When any of us pass a homeless person, it’s hard to know if it’s the right thing to put money in their hands. So we decided to support Shelter for 12 months as our chosen charity. Shelter are an organisation that do so much good work for people living on our streets and in a small way, we hope to make a difference by raising funds.
For every £1 donated, 79p goes towards helping people struggling with bad housing and homelessness and £30 pays for a face-to-face support session with a Shelter adviser. We all need support from time to time, but the Homeless need support every day and sometimes it just someone to talk to and help them find a way to help themselves.
“Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life.”
— Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa.
